Lock down Entertainment

Yoobee gave an assignment inspired by the 2020 lock down, which was to design a webpage. We could choose any form of media that could entertain the masses whilst a lock down scenario was in action.

Being a Fan of the Gorillaz, my idea was to design a site for this hypothetical scenario of which the Gorillaz would host a live concert via stream.

The Gorillaz are known for having an animated band but in the past they have done live performances by using avatars that are displayed over the voice actors like a snap chat filter, or have even used hologram technology to bring the characters “alive” on stage.

Display Platforms

The Idea for the site was to have it all on a single page that had a dynamic display that would change when scrolling. Using the contrast of black and white to create the illusion of depth helped create what looked like the user would be scrolling past different levels.

The “platforms” are responsive to their place on the screen and grow thicker the closer they are to the bottom or the top of the screen. The images once past a certain point will also swap between showing on top or behind the black shapes. This change in shape coupled with the content displayed on each platform creates the illusion.

Example

Art Generation

Using a combination of already existing art from the Gorillaz official website and social media, I used a mixed of illustrator and Photoshop to came up with an aesthetic I believe reflects the bands feel for creative presentation and capturing the emotions of the characters.

From the images I acquired, I restructured expressions, body positions and clothing to better suit each scene.

Merch and Music

Part of the brief for the assignment was to create a way the site could generate money to give to charity. Scrolling through the site users can purchase Gorillaz merchandise and vinyl records, or all of Gorillaz music and the money goes it a chosen charity on purchase.

Live Stream

The theme of the stream is the old school 3D effect which uses the red and blue glasses to be able to great the illusion of 3D projection. Granted not everyone will have 3D glasses or the ability to buy them during lock down the art style just adds contrast to the black and white surroundings.

After the concert the Gorillaz would take a Q&A from the viewers.
